Tax Bills & Assessments
Property tax bills are due and payable quarterly on the first of February, May, August and November. The billing dates are subject to change if billing amounts are delayed. If you have a mortgage your tax bill is mailed directly to your bank and an advice copy is mailed to you - the homeowner. Any questions regarding tax bills or payments should be directed to the Tax Collector's office.
Questions concerning your property assessments, tax appeals, and veteran and senior citizen deduction applications should be addressed to the Tax Assessor at 973-266-5105.
Tax Searches require a $10 fee and are processed within fifteen business days upon receipt of payment. The Tax Search (PDF) gives a breakdown of the current tax year, total amounts for the previous two years and other permit, lien, assessments, deductions and exemptions. All funds for lien redemption must be certified cash, bank check or money order made payable to The City of East Orange. Please make sure you call the Tax Office for accurate amounts prior to making a payment.
All bounce checks require a fee of $20 in addition to original amount paid plus interest. The payment must be certified funds only and fee must be separate.
The tax rate is determined by the town, county and schools budget. General tax rate is to apply per $100 valuation. PD-05 Form (PDF) applicants must first apply through the Tax Assessors office.
Water payments are accepted in the Tax Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., accompanied with your bill. The Tax Office does not accept shut off notice payments. If you have any further questions please contact the Water Department at 973-266-8869.
Resident Parking permits can be purchased for $150. Parking hang tag for $6 per night. Parking authority stickers are $40 each month. All payments must be certified cash or money order. A process must be completed for all new applicants. Please contact the Tax Office for more information.
